HSUANYU “SHARON”

Hsuanyu (Sharon) is a cellist and music educator from Taiwan. She has a B.M. in cello performance and music education at the Taipei Municipal Education University, as well as a masters in cello performance at Tunghai University under the direction of Arkadi Kuchynski. In 2011 she came to New York to attend a music education program at NYU. Now she spreads her love of music to many students and performs in various concerts. She has been playing with the Chelsea symphony since 2014.

She played for an off-Broadway musical “Comfort Women” and off-off Broadway musicals “A New Brain” “Once Upon a Mattress” , and “Spring Awakening”. In 2019 December she will be playing for “Little Women” at the Gallery Players. Before that, in Taiwan, Hsuanyu regularly performed in chamber ensemble and solo recitals. She co-composed a musical (called “Zigzag”) which won a competition from Taiwan’s Council for Cultural Affairs, later adapted to an orchestra. She also directed and performed in a play (Woman 30’s) that showcased her piano, cello, and ballroom dancing with her fellow musicians and dancers. Besides music, she enjoys ballroom dancing and meditation.
