Sylvester Wee is a Partner at Sentinel Global, a venture capital fund focused on transformative technologies and business models that will reshape industries by enhancing efficiency, safety, and security. Sylvester and his fellow Sentinel team members have successfully scaled multiple unicorns, connecting them with strategic partners and navigating regulatory challenges globally.
Prior to Sentinel, Sylvester was the Founder and CEO of a fintech company focused on financial inclusion in the United States. He successfully raised venture capital and formed strong partnerships with key stakeholders such as banks, processors, and payment networks. By implementing alternative credit underwriting and employing a mobile-first system, he successfully addressed the needs of underbanked and unbanked individuals who have been neglected by the traditional US credit scoring system.
Additionally, he was previously at GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, under their private equity and venture capital arm. He invested in 14 different companies globally during his tenure with the organization across industries like Technology, Financial Services, and Consumer.
Apart from investing and entrepreneurship, Sylvester was an artillery officer in the Singapore military and was privileged to have led over 200 people in his battalion. He was stationed in countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand, leading live firing and reconnaissance missions.
Sylvester is a graduate of the Wharton School, where he obtained his undergraduate degree, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Currently based in the Boston and New York but born and raised in Singapore, Sylvester was at one point Singapore's #1 ranked tennis player, competing in championships such as the Davis Cup and Australian Open.
